DALLA, LOUIS - (1908-1982) - Interviewed April 13, 1978 – 2 CDs-$25 Each - (F-5-E-2-6, Part 2) Interview with Louis W. “Louie” Dalla, born in Silverton in 1908 (died 1982). He discusses his recollections as a State Highway Department employee in San Juan County. He worked a total of 34 years with county and state highway crews in San Juan County. He went to work for the state in 1936. Louie methodically names the major avalanches along U.S. 550, both north and south of Silverton. He discusses the origin of their names, their characteristics and his hair-raising experiences in clearing them. His memory for dates of specific happenings is accurate. Covers the period 1930 - 1978.

Pete’s father died the next year in the 1918 flu epidemic. Pete discusses his family background and ancestors, his mother’s life and remarriages and his own memories of Blair Street businesses and personalities. The family moved to Durango in 1927.

She recalls the early history of her father and her own career as a telephone operator in Silverton. She married Nondo Giacomelli, shoe repairman in Silverton and Durango and assisted in operation of the business.
