 BERQUIST, DELLA - Interviewed Nov 24, 1987 - (F-5-E-6-18) – 30 min

Interview includes recollections and notes regarding her husband’s remembrances of Silverton.  Her husband, Arthur Hilding Berquist, the son of Gus and Hilda Swanson Berquist, was born in Silverton in 1905 and died in 1987.  His father, August “Gus” Berquist, came to America in 1890, to Silverton in 1891, and married Hilda Swanson in 1901.  Gus was in the saloon business, worked in the mines and died in Silverton 1913.  Louise Berquist Christopher was daughter of Della and Arthur Hilding Berquist.

­Interview with Dr. Gerald Burgess, born in Canon City in 1925 and raised in Silverton.  He worked as a trucker and garage man and after World War II enrolled in dental school.  He lived in Delta, Colorado at the time of this interview.

Cato (1905-1981), born in Silverton, recalls memories of childhood and discusses the Cato and Brice Patterson families; Brice Patterson was Cato’s grandfather.  Includes stories of life, schooling, and railroading in the Silverton and Pagosa Springs areas.

 

 COLE, JAMES WILLIAM - Interviewed April 6, 1979 - (F-5-E-2-17) – 64 min

At time of this interview, Jim (1916-1982), born in Silverton, was preparing to leave Silverton for a lower elevation.  He had been identifying photos before the tape started, and discusses mine and mill memories related to single-piston engines.  Also talks of the Silverton Bears Semi-Pro baseball team, Sheepman’s Days, Silverton dairies, business locations and other subjects.

 

 DALLA, FURY - Interviewed April 27, 1984 - (F-5-E-5-11) – 60 min

Fury (1905-1988), son of John and Domenica Todeschi Dalla, was born in Silverton; He was a teacher in the Silverton school system several years, moved to California and spent the rest of his teaching career there.  In this interview he recalled growing up in Silverton, family history, reminiscences as a teacher in Silverton and cultural and artistic events in Silverton.

 

 DALLA, LOUIS & LENA BAUDINO - Interviewed Dec 14, 1981 – (F-5-E-4-3) – 62 min

This interview was shortly before the couple’s 50th wedding anniversary.  Both were born in Silverton, Louie in 1908 (died 1982) and Lena in 1912 (died 1999).  They recall their marriage in Aztec, New Mexico and various aspects of their lives together, as well as Silverton happenings from 1931 until 1981.
